UNOCI provides technical assistance to Ivorian Electricity Company to help return power to western towns

The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), through its Egyptian Engineer Company (EGYPTENGINEER) based in Yamoussoukro, has provided technical assistance to the Ivorian Electricity Company (IEC) to repair a breakdown in electricity supply to western towns in Côte d'Ivoire.

Heavy machinery sent by UNOCI near the town of Guéssabo, along the River Sassandra, helped the electricity company to repair an electric cable which had been damaged plunging towns in the Guèmon, Cavally, Bafing and Tonkpi regions in darkness for three days, from Tuesday 5 May to Thursday, 7 May 2015. The power cut had severely disrupted economic activities in the regions.

Power was finally re-established on Thursday, 7 May 2015, at 9.13 p.m after work carried out by the IEC; allowing people to carry out their normal activities.

UNOCI's assistance to the IEC is part of the UN Mission's commitment to establishing a peaceful and safe environment in Côte d'Ivoire.
