UNOCI pays tribute to deceased Moroccan peacekeeper

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aichatou Mindaoudou, on Wednesday, 18 November 2015, presided over a wreath-laying ceremony for a Moroccan peacekeeper who died on 11 November 2015.



Lance Corporal Driss Zarrik died in a road accident near Man, situated at 570 km from Abidjan, due to a technical fault in the lorry he was driving while on a transport mission.



Speaking during the ceremony, the Commander of the 22nd Moroccan Contingent of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), Colonel Ahmed Bousserbat, highlighted the human and professional qualities of the late Corporal who worked as a driver with his company which is deployed in Danané (70 km from Man)



« He was very committed to the values of peace and tolerance and distinguised himself by his ardour for work, » said the Moroccan Contingent Commander.



During the ceremony, the Special Representative and the Force Commander, General Didier l'Hôte, laid wreaths on the coffin of the Moroccan soldier.

After the final tribute of a guard of honour for the late soldier, Mrs Mindaoudou and the other officials who attended the ceremony, presented their condolences to members of the Moroccan Contingent.



The Moroccan Ambassador to Côte d'Ivoire, His Excellency Mustapha Jebbari, took part in the ceremony which was held in UNOCI headquarters in Abidjan.
