UNOCI pays last homage to deceased peacekeeper

Deputy Special Representative of UN Secretary-General for Cote d'Ivoire, Simon Munzu on Wednesday 13 May 2015 presided over a military ceremony to pay tribute to Warrant Officer Amana Akassibou, a Blue helmet who died on 4 May 2015 of a cardiac condition.



In his funeral oration, the Commander of the 21st Togolese contingent, Lt. Colonel Lamboni Bagbaroua expressed regret, pain and compassion on behalf of the entire contingent for the loss of this exemplary officer. « He had remarkable moral qualities: calm, courteous and very humane; he was highly regarded and loved by all. As one who was open to dialogue, he knew well how to maintain his rank while being close to his men. He enjoyed the confidence and friendship of his men, » Lt. Colonel Bagbaroua said of the deceased.



The Deputy Special Representative, Simon Munzu laid a wreath on the casket of Warrant Officer Amana Akassibou, followed by the UNOCI Force Commander, General Hafiz Massroor Ahmed.



After the presentation of a guard of honour, Mr. Munzu and General Hafiz as well as other officials presented messages of condolence to members of the Togolese contingent.



Warrant Officer Amana Akassibou who joined the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) in 2014 was born in 1966 and leaves behind a wife and six children to mourn him.
