Abidjan, 30 March 2009... The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) has learnt with deep regret of the accident that occurred on Sunday 29 March 2009 at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny stadium, at the football match between the Elephants [the Ivorian national team] and Malawi, in which about twenty people died and more than 130 were injured among the Ivorian supporters.

UNOCI expresses its compassion and condolences to the Government and people of Côte d'Ivoire as well as to the families of the victims, and conveys its wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.
