The 19th Ghanaian contingent of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) on Tuesday, 8 October 2013, donated a consignment of medication to the civilian prison in Bouna.



Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the representative of the Ghanaian Battalion (Ghanbatt) Commander said that as part of its mandate under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, Ghanbatt, besides its security activities, also engages in humanitarian assistance through hospitals by providing free consultations and treatment, takes part in quick impact projects, and distributes potable water and medicines to the population.

The Prison Superintendent, Fran Lia Marceline said he was pleased with the gift which he stressed would be of great help to the inmates.



For his part, the Public Prosecutor for Bouna magistrates Court, Sylvain Mambe thanked Ghanbatt for its "{magnanimous gesture}".



The ceremony ended with free medical consultations for all the inmates of the prison. It should be noted also that 15 detainees who benefitted from presidential pardon were released the day before.
