UNOCI facilitates workshop on taking into account sexual violence linked to conflict in draft FRCI Code of Ethics

The Womens Protection Officer in the Human Rights Division of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), Mrs Sandra Allibert-Delestras, in collaboration with the Committee of Experts on Sexual Violence linked to Conflict, led a workshop on taking into account the specific needs regarding sexual violence linked to conflict in the draft Code of Conduct and the Ethics Charter of the Forces Républicaines de Côte d'Ivoire (FRCI) at the Forces' headquarters on 2 June 2015.

The aim of the workshop was to help in the drawing up of the Code of conduct for Ivorian soldiers instructing them on how best they could deal with cases of sexual violence, including sexual violence linked to conflict.

Some 30 participants, including three women, who came from the Ivorian Ministry of Defence, the FRCI High Command, the Ministry of Solidarity, Family, Women and Children, the National Observatory for Gender and Equality, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and UNOCI's Security Sector Reform Division took an active part in the workshop.

At the end of the workshop, the two documents were sent to the Ethics and Deontology Directorate of the Ministry of Defence for further examination.

It should be noted that another aim of the workshop was to support the implementation of National Committee of Experts Plan of Action which refers to the National Strategy for the Fight Aganist Sexual Violence and Gender-based Violence.
