UNOCI encourages excellence among pupils in Fengolo 1 primary school

The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) on Tuesday, 1 October 2013, donated school kits provided by peacekeepers from the 18th Contingent of the Moroccan Battalion (MORBATT) based Duékoué to pupils at the public primary school in Fengolo , situated at 511 km northwest of Abidjan.

Some 30 pupils whose work were judged to have been excellent during the past school year were given school kits comprising a bag, four pens, pencils, a rubber, pencil sharpeners, colouring pencils, a ruler and exercise books.

The officer in charge of MORBATT's civil-military activities, Commander Mohamed Karoun explained their reasons for supporting the school: "{MORBATT wanted to thank the children for working so hard and encourage those who did not receive a school kit this time to work hard so they can be on the list the next time}".

The representatives of the Child Protection and Public Information sections also encouraged the children to work well in schools so that

they can be among those who are given school kits the next time. The director and president of the School Management Committee for Fengolo 1, Oulobo Guefa Raphael and Célestin Davahouin, thanked UNOCI for choosing their school. "{This action is going to help the pupils and their parents who very often do not have the means to buy school stationery for their children," }they added. They also asked for the number of school kits to be increased next year in order to encourage more children to work harder.
