UNOCI donates a building comprising three classrooms to Baradjan village, near Odienne

Baradjan, a village situated at 15 km from Odienne has been given a building comprising three classrooms equipped with tables and

benches, an office and a block of three latrines at a total cost of 12,395,000 FCFA. The building, which was officially handed over on Friday, 27 September 2013, was constructed by the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI).



The inauguration ceremony was attended by the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Côte d'Ivoire, Ndolamb Ngokwey, who said "{to invest in education is to contribute to building a strong nation}". Mr. Ngokwey, who is alo the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire also appealed to the people of Baradjan to promote children's right to education.



The Regional Director of Education (DREN), Touré Tiégbèman, welcomed the partnership between the Ivorian State and UNOCI and the UN Mission's commitment to education and training. "{The donation of this building is a great humanitarian act and the promotion of children's right to education. I would like to thank you on behalf of the Minister of Education, Kandia Camara, for the inestimable support that you have provided for education in Kabadoudgou}", said Mr. Tiegbèmam.



For his part, the deputy prefect of central Odienne, Sepy Yessoh, expressed the gratitude of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire and the people of Baradjan to UNOCI for having helped to build a school which will contribute to advancing education. "{This building represents hope for the future}," he added.



Representatives of the different UNOCI sections in Odienne, local administrative and military authorities, religious and traditiona leaders, local NGOs, teachers, pupils and their parents took part in the ceremony.
