UNOCI announces the death of Moroccan peacekeeper

Abidjan, 13 November 2015 – The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) regrets to announce the death of a peacekeeper from the 22nd Moroccan Contingent. Corporal Driss Zarrik died on 11 November 2015, following a road accident at 7 km from Man (570 km from Abidjan), while he was on transport mission from Danané (70 km de Man).

The military truck he was driving overturned due to a mechanical fault. Two other peacekeepers were injured in the accident.

Corporal Zarrik, deployed in UNOCI in May 2015, was married with two children. He was 41. His death bring the number of peacekeepers who have died since the deployment of the UN Mission in April 2004 to 100.

UNOCI presents its sincere condolences to the Moroccan Government and the bereaved family and wishes the two injured peacekeepers a speedy recovery.
