UNOCI and people in Odienné celebrate the National Day of Solidarity


Praising outstanding actions that promote social cohesion at local and national level was the objective of the National Solidarity Day celebrated by people in Odienné, situated at 867 km north of Abidjan.



The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire ( UNOCI), which took part in the celebration on 14 November 2013, held a conference on solidarity and social cohesion.



The representative of UNOCI's Civil Affairs Section made the link between national solidarity, social cohesion and conflict with war victims. He then provided some answers on the role of war victims in promoting peace, social cohesion and national reconciliation in Denguélé District and the rest of Côte d'Ivoire.



At the end of his speech, the representative of Civil Affairs Section of the UN Mission asked Ivorians and communities living on Ivorian soil to put

aside their bitterness and their pride in order to help Côte d'Ivoire remain the country of hospitality, harmony, tolerance and solidarity.



For its part, the Regional Director of Family, Solidarity, Women and Children, Benoit Djirignon, said that solidarity was an essential and fundamental element of society. "Without solidarity, without supporting, without accepting one and other, there can be life in society. Social cohesion would never exist ," he has said.



About 25 people attended the celebration.
