UNOCI and the people of Assuéfry discuss strengthening social cohesion

ONUCI Tour, the local sensibilisation campaign of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) made a stop in the department of Tanda, in Assuéfry, the capital of the sous-préfecture, situated at some 54 km from Bondoukou, on 20 November 2015 to promote the need to strengthe social cohesion, reconciliation and the consolidation of peace.



Some 100 participants, including 20 women, from 27 villages in the constituency took part in the activity. Discussions focused on the effort that has been made by the UN Mission since its inception to benefit Ivorians and local authorities for the return of lasting peace.



During the activity which was presided over by the deputy prefect of Assuéfry, Sana Soro, the main message delivered by the differents sections of UNOCI, including the UN Police, Civil Affairs and Public Informatuon sections, as well as partners such as the Legal Aid Clinic in Bondoukou, focused on the peace consolidation process which concerns all Ivorians following the presidential election on 25 October 2015.



Speaking on behalf of the municipal authorities, the second deputy mayor, Sacko Hamidou Issoufou, thanked UNOCI for the fuitful discussions. « The municipal authorities know that they can count on you to help local people to work towards development which is also a factor in the consolidation of peace, » he said.



The president of the assembly of traditional chiefs of Assuéfry, Pierre Ankaman, speaking on behalf of the population thanked UNOCI for the initiative to come and share information with the people and listen to their concerns. He assured the UNOCI delegation that local people will from now on continue to work in order to build peace on a daily basis. He then made a plea to the Ivorian authorities for logistical means to be provided for the Health Centre in Assuéfry.



The head of the UNOCI delegation, Léon Krizoua from the Civil Affairs Section, assured participants that the UN Mission remain ready to accompany them in accordance with its limited means. He then urged them to be more tolerant and committed in their daily lives in an effort to ensure the consolidation of peace and reconciliation.
