UN Assistant Secretary-General for Safety and Security in the United Nations pays courtesy visit on Minister of Foreign Affairs

The United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Safety and Security, Mrs Mbaranga Gasarabwe, accompanied by the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, paid a courtesy visit on the Ivorian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Charles Koffi Diby, on Tuesday, 19 November 2013.



During her visit in Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Mbaranga hopes to get an idea of the security situation and discuss progress made in this regard and the challenges which remain with Ivorian authorities. "UNOCI is a very important mission in this regard and it is important for me to come and see all the efforts that have been made on the ground," said Mrs Mbaranga after her meeting.

Mrs Mbaranga Gasarabwe said she was pleasantly surprised by the calm and serenity in Abidjan. "The authorities should be congratulated for this situation and it should be consolidated," she said, adding that "all the merit goes to the Ivorian Government which has welcomed the United Nations and UNOCI in its midst".



Before leaving Côte d'Ivoire, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Safety and Security, Mrs Mbaranga Gasarabwe, expressed her optimism, while noting that there were still challenges to overcome.
