SRSG participates in workshop to draft strategic documents for Human Rights Commission

The Human Rights Division of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), representing the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the National Human Rights Commission of Côte d'Ivoire are jointly organizing a workshop in Grand Bassam from 18 to 20 May 2015 on "Drafting Strategic Documents for the National Human Rights Commission of Côte d'Ivoire"‎.

The aim of the workshop is to provide the Human Rights Commission with internal documents which would allow it to function in accordance with the "Paris Principles" – a set of guidelines on children associated with armed forces or armed groups. It is the second in a series of workshops being organized to draft the strategic documents of the Commission to ensure it functions democratically, performs well and is transparent.

During the workshop, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, held discussions with permanent members and personnel of the Commission on the importance of attaining their objectives. She encouraged them to be professional in their quest to overcome the structural challenges that their organization is currently facing. The participants took the opportunity to discuss the current political situation, the electoral process, security and disarmament with the Special Representative.
