Special Representative receives president of LIDER

A delegation of the opposition party Liberty and Democracy for the Republic (LIDER) led by its president, Mamadou Koulibaly, on Monday, 30 September 2013, paid a courtesy visit on the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire and head of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou.

«We discussed the general situation in the country and urgent matters which need to be addressed such as reconciliation, justice and reform of the security sector," said Mr. Koulibaly at the end of the meeting.

The president of LIDER said that he had also discussed the concerns of his political party with Mrs Mindaoudou regarding elections, the status of the opposition and the political dialogue it had embarked on with the Government. « It would be good if, in accordance with Resolutions 2062 and 2112 of the Security Council, we could have a clear line from the Government regarding the dialogue with the opposition because Ivorians have much to do and it is time for all the belligerence and pretence to disappear so that we can confront our history without fear," added Mr. Koulibaly.

On the issue of security, Mr. Koulibaly said that it would not be possible to conduct elections in Côte d'Ivoire if this issue has not been resolved. «The issue of Dozos, ex-combatants, false ex-combatants, militias, the prisoners who will soon be released, all of this worries a party like ours which is obliged to travel all over the country," he said.
