Special Representative receives the President of HACA





The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire and Chief of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, on Thursday, 6 August 2015, met with the President of the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication, Mr. Ibrahim Sy Savané, at the headquarters of the United Nations Mission Côte d'Ivoire, to discuss the role of the media in the presidential election in October 2015.



Responding to questions from ONUCI FM after the meeting, the President of the media regulatory authority said that he and the head of UNOCI « had discussed the issue of equitable media access during the electoral process ».



With regard to the behaviour of the Media during the electoral period, Mr. Sy Savané said that « the Media should support equitable media access and promote professionalism ». He recalled that « these exigences applied to public as well as privately-owned media ». The President of the audiovisual communication regulator concluded by appealing to media practitioners to develop a peaceful vision and to redouble their professional pride in an effort to avoid being used to pass on the messages of political parties.
