Special Representative received by Ivorian Head of State

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aichatou Mindaoudou, on Monday, 21 July 2014, held discussions with the Ivorian Head of State, President Alassane Ouattara, on the new Security Council resolution extending the mandate of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) and the ongoing political dialogue between the Government and the Opposition.



Speaking to journalists at the end of the discussions, Mrs Mindaoudou said she had explained the contents of the new resolution with regard to the situation in Côte d'Ivoire and its implications for UNOCI and the country to President Ouattara.



Resolution 2162 was adopted by the UN Security Council on 25 June 2014. It recommends among other issues the restructuring of UNOCI's military component, the Mission's accompaniment of the Ivorian Government in the Security Sector Reform (SSR) and Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) processes, as well as in the protection of civilians.
