The Special Representative meets with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations office

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Côte d'Ivoire, Ms. Aichatou Mindaoudou, met, on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, in Abidjan, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs at the US State Department, Ms. Victoria K. Holt. She was accompanied by the Ambassador of the United States in Côte d'Ivoire, Terrence Mc Culley.

At the end of the meeting, Ms. Holt revealed the purpose of her visit at the headquarters of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI). "The object of my mission is to discuss with the Special Representative, the UNOCI field staff and other partners, to have an idea of the current situation ahead of the New York discussions in June about the renewal of UNOCI's mandate," Holt said.

For the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, the UN mission in Côte d'Ivoire was dedicated to helping the country and the Ivorian people move forward.

"We know the important role UNOCI will play from now until the elections in October. We all hope, the US Government as well as UNOCI, that the elections will be peaceful and inclusive," Ms. Holt said.

The two personalities also talked about the political situation in Côte d'Ivoire; the challenges faced by UNOCI and the security situation.
