Special Representative meets African Ambassadors accredited Côte d’Ivoire

As part of the periodic meetings between the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) and members of the diplomatic corps, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, on Friday, 21 February 2014, received African Ambassadors accredited to Côte d'Ivoire to discuss major developments linked to UNOCI's mandate and mutual cooperation.

Speaking at the end of the meeting, the 2nd Vice-Doyen of the diplomatic corps, the Algerian Ambassador, Mr. Boumedième Guenab said:"Ambassadors accredited to Côte d'Ivoire are all ambassadors of member states of the United Nations, in this regard, we are all interested in the United Nations actions in Côte d'Ivoire".

According to the Algerian diplomat, these periodic encounters provide an opportunity for the ambassadors to listen to the Special Representative's analysis of the evolution of the situation and discuss the latest developments in the country with her.

"Côte d'Ivoire is in the process of taking her place in the concert of Nations and we all wish that she does not relive the crisis which she has gone through in the past. As members of the UN, we are at the disposition of the Special Representative who told us that she is also at our disposition and is willing to listen to what we have to say," added Mr. Guenab.

"We all would like to see the next election, which is the presidential election in 2015, take place under the best conditions and that Côte d'Ivoire succeeds and concentrates on development which has already started," he concluded.
