Special Representative hands over variety of UNOCI-sponsored projects in the regions

The Special Representative of UN Secretary-General in Cote d'Ivoire, Mrs. Aichatou Mindaoudou visited Daloa on 23 April 2015 to hand over to administrative authorities a number of projects and equipment destined for the education, health and justice sectors in the Goh and Haut Sassandra regions.





The projects which fall within the framework of quick impact projects (QIPS) of the UN Operation for Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) include the procurement and delivery of sound equipment for 15 tribunals; the rehabilitation of three classrooms, a canteen, kitchen and latrines for the Public Primary School of the National Gendarmerie Legion in Daloa and an infirmary for the Lycee Municipale of Ouragahio, 150 km from Daloa. The primary school has a total enrolment of 800 pupils.





Tribunals to benefit from the sound systems include those in Daloa, Gagnoa, Bouafle, Man, Issia, Soubre Divo, Oume, Tabou, Touba,Guiglo, Seguela, Danane, and Sassandra. UNOCI had also organized the training of technicians to manage the sound equipment.





At the reception ceremony, the State Counsel-general of the Appeal Court of Daloa, Mr. Kpagni Ngessan thanked UNOCI for responding favourably to the request of the President of the Daloa Magistrate's Court saying the donation comes as a relief to the magistrates, judiciary staff and users.





At the Lycee Municipale, Special Representative Aichatou Mindaoudou inaugurated the infirmary which comprises a treatment room, an observation room, the doctor's office, two consultation rooms and two toilets. The Mayor of Ouragahio, Mr. Pierre Dacoury-Tabley, a pharmacist himself, thanked UNOCI for the project, saying "to be in peace also means to be in good health."





The Special Representative lauded the commitment of the pupils at the Lycee to take good care of the infirmary while the Prefect of the region, Nzi Kangah Remi expressed the gratitude of the population and proceeded to enumerate several UNOCI actions that have left a strong impression in the area such as the restoration of state authority throughout the country, the rehabilitation of administrative buildings, construction of basic infrastructure, and the provision of potable water in towns and village during periods of scarcity.





The Prefect called on the school authorities and the pupils to respect their commitment to maintain the infirmary and the population to contribute to the provision of medicines for the infirmary.
