Special Representative encourages RPC-Paix leader to carry torch of democracy even higher





The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, continued her meetings with candidates of the presidential election at their campaign headquarters, by visiting that of Mrs Henriette Lagou, leader of the Renouveau pour la Paix et la Concorde – Renewal for Peace and Cohesion - (RPC- PAIX ), on Wednesday, 4 November 2015.



Speaking at the end of the discussions, the head of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) told the press that she had come to visit the RPC-Paix leader and her team to pass on the congratulations of the UN Secretary-General and the international community for her participation in the presidential election, for the democratic campaign which she conducted and her attitude after the presidential poll on 25 October 2015, especially in congratulating the winner and taking part in the swearing-in ceremony.



Mrs Mindaoudou recalled that civic participation is a guage of democracy, which is in itself a fundamental elément in societies, particularly in our African societies. She encouraged Mrs Lagou to continue to take part in different future elections and to carry the torch of democracy even higher that she had done by taking part in the presidential election.



« Her political career has only just started because the legislative and local elections are going to be organised. We would like and hope that she and members of her party will take part in them », said the Special Representative.



For her part, Mrs Lagou expressed her and her team's delight with the head of UNOCI's visit. « For along time now, the Special Representative has been meeting with us to give us advice and guidance », said the leader of RPC-Paix, adding that this helped her and her team to orgnaise a good campaign. « We had an enriching experience and we have been committed to peace for a long time and we are going to continue along this path. We want Côte d'Ivoire to find lasting peace »}, stressed Mrs Lagou, who then thanked her voters, Côte d'Ivoire and the international community for having supported the country in the organisation of the election.



« Peace is coming. I thank everyone! », she concluded.
