Special Representative congratulates Kouadio Konan Bertin on his sense of nationalism during the Ivorian presidential election in October 2015





The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Aïchatou Mindaoudou, on Tuesday, 3 November 2015, went to the campaign headquarters of presidential candidate Kouadio Konan Bertin, to congratulate him on his sense of nationalism during the Ivorian presidential election held on 25 October 2015.



Speaking after the meeting, the Special Representative told journalists that it was important for her to visit the campaign headquarters of Kouadio Konan Bertin « in order to congratulate him on behalf of the United Nations Secretary-General and the United Nations on his attitude, first of all by taking part in the presidential election on 25 October 2015, by carrying out a campaign which put the national interest above all else, and also by taking part in the swearing-in ceremony of the President of Côte d'Ivoire ». She also congratulated the members of Mr. Kouadio Konan Bertin's cabinet.



Mrs Mindaoudou also said « their sense of nationalism contributed to the conduct of a peaceful and calm presidential election». The Special Representative expressed the hope that the behaviour and attitude of Kouadio Konan Bertin will be an example to young people.



For his part, Kouadio Konan Bertin said he was honoured by the visit of the Special Representative, adding that his wish now was « to participate in the democratic game to ensure that Côte d'Ivoire finds peace and stability and that young people on the Continent contribute to creating the right conditions for development on the Continent, which can only be done in a climate of peace and stability ». He thanked the United Nations, adding that the Organisation's recognition of his role during the Ivorian presidential election was something that he could be proud of.
