Special Representative appeals for a calm and serene electoral campaign

Abidjan, 9 October 2015... The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, has called for the presidential electoral campaign which started on Friday, 9 October 2015 in Côte d'Ivoire, to take place in a calm and serene climate.

She urged the presidential electoral candidates to ensure that their supporters behave responsibly in order to ensure a peaceful electoral campaign, which is what all Ivorians want.

The Special Representative also appealed to the media to show professionalism in their coverage of the electoral campaign and in their treatment of information, in accordance with existing rules and regulations.

The Special Representative and the international community remain convinced that Ivorians will put the general interest, respect for democratic principles and the consolidation of peace before, during and after the polls in October 2015, above all else.
