Special Representative and the Secretary-General of Mano River Union discuss collaboration between the two organisations for the good of the sub-region

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, on Friday, 4 October 2013, received the Secretary-General of the Mano River Union, Dr. Saran Daraba Kaba who came to pay her a courtesy visit and discuss the existing collaboration between the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) and the regional organisation.



"{We also talked about the joint action that is currently being carried out by UNOCI and the Mano River Union on the western border of Côte d'Ivoire, especially regarding jointly establishing security and confidence in this area}," she said at the end of the meeting.



According to the Secretary-General of the Mano River Union, other issues such as promoting reconciliation through the media were also discussed. "{We also discussed providing training for local media which could contribute to peace and stability in members states of the Mano River Union. And in the case of Côte d'Ivoire, to see together, how to ensure that the reconciliation process is supported and promoted}," explained Dr. Kaba.



Asked about the quality of the relationship between her organisation and the UN Mission, Dr. Kaba said that the collaboration was excellent. "{For the past two or three year the Mano River Union has been working with UNOCI to try to stabilise the border areas}," she added.



On this issue, Secretary-General highlighted the huge challenges that the western border with Liberia constitutes with regard to Côte d'Ivoire stability. "{Together, we working tireless on this issue. We discuss the problem regularly and we are going to continue to improve this collaboration in order to contribute to the stability and security of the sub-region}," she said.
