Special Representative and Ivorian Health Minister discuss UNOCI support for Ebola crisis management





The Special Representative of UN Secretary-general in Cote d'Ivoire, Mrs. Aichatou Mindaoudou on Monday 25 August 2014 declared the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) and the UN System were at the entire disposal of the Ivorian government in the management of the Ebola virus epidemic and support the strategy adopted by government to face the crisis.



« Regarding the issue of the Ebola virus, we are behind the WHO (World Health Organisation) which is taking the lead in assisting the Government in the management of the Ebola crisis, » Mrs. Mindaoudou said after a meeting with Ivorian Minister of Health, Mrs. Raymonde Goudou Koffi to discuss operational details.



The Ivorian Health Minister said she had discussed, among other issues, a request for UNOCI logistic support to Ivorian security and forces of law and order as well as to health workers positioned at various illegal entry points used by migrants into the territory.



« The borders are closed no doubt but we are vigilant and have requested the support of UNOCI to maintain this vigilance », Mrs. Goudou stressed, noting that any support from UNOCI would be useful in assisting the Government implement preventive measures taken against the Ebola virus.
