Talks that were expected to resume this week between the government and the opposition FPI Party might be delayed after FPI interim President Miaka Oureto posed certain preconditions in a correspondence to Prime Minister Kablan Duncan. FPI Secretary-General Richard Kodjo said he would not, for the sake of courtesy, comment on the content of the letter to the Prime Minister. FPI party sources said the preconditions were not unconnected to the current political climate marked by the arrest of FPI youth wing leader, Koua Justin and the continued detention of the FPI party hierarchy , two years after the post electoral crisis.

Sud report that the FPI youth wing leader made his first appearance in court yesterday before an investigating magistrate. Koua Justin, who was arrested on 7 June, is facing charges of undermining state security, disturbing public order, insulting the Head of State, and involvement with an armed organisation.

Sud: Defence lawyer of former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo yesterday introduced an appeal at the International Criminal Court ICC praying the court to release his client after it adjourned the confirmation of charges against the former president because of insufficient evidence. Instead of requesting the Prosecutor to provide additional evidence, the defence argues, the ICC should rather dismiss the case against Mr. Gbagbo.

L'Inter: It has now emerged that the endorsement by consensus of a draft law on nationality by government on 6 June was done after a very heated disagreement over the issues of acquisition of nationality by marriage and by swearing an affidavit in court for persons born in Cote d'Ivoire before 1960 and between 1961 and 1973. Meanwhile the Minister of Justice, Gnenema Coulibaly has said persons identified as stateless have been naturalised in accordance with a decree issued in 1995.

Sir Info, L'Inter, Le Nouveau Reveil, LG Info, Le Jour Plus: A convoy of 35 gendarmes that was returning from an eviction operation in the forest reserve of Niegre on Monday was attacked by a heavily armed gang. Five gendarmes were injured, two severely, in the surprise attack.
