Some 426 Ivorian refugees from Liberia were voluntarily repatriated on Thursday

26 August  by the UN High Commission for refugees UNHCR. UNOCI Force provided

security escort for the returnees. On the same day, Ivorian refugees returning

from Togo and Ghana thanks to UNHCR and a local humanitarian organisation, SAARA.

Ivorian women jurists have been touring the interior of the country to introduce

their legal clinic to the vulnerable components of the society especially women

and children. The legal clinic was created to provide free access to legal

counselling and asistance in matters related to gender, land ownership,

succession, and marriage.

The youth and students' association in Vandougou, Fanfala village organised a

3-day public gathering on 24 August aimed promoting social cohesion. UNOCI took

part in the event to assure the people of the Mission's support of such

initiatives.

The Ivorian Head of State, Alassane Ouattara on Monday 2 September launched

construction work on the express way linking the Abidjan districts of Abobo and

Anyama. Mr. Outtara said the launching was an opportunity for him to say "yako"-

a local expression of compassion- to the people of the PK18 neighbourhood which

he described as "the symbol of the struggle for  democracy in Cote d'Ivoire." He

appealed to them to demonstrate a spirit if peace and forgiveness. AIP, Le

on young ex-combatants to exercise patience and restraint, promising them that

today there were concrete plans for their future.

Five demonstrators who were among some 350 student officers and sub officers of

the Water and Forestry school who demonstrated last Sunday against their non

integration into the public service after graduation, have been reported

missing. Ten people are said to have been injured when security forces used tear

gas to disperse the demonstrators who had gathered at the Notre Dame de la Paix

Basilica in Yamoussoukro.
