Principal Deputy Special Representative meets president of National Commission for Human Rights

The Principal Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Simon Munzu, on Monday, 17 April 2015, met with the president of the Ivorian National Commission for Human Rights, Mrs Paulette Ezouehu Badjo, at the headquarters of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) in Abidjan.



Speaking after the meeting, Mrs Badjo said that she had discussed the activities of her institution with the PDSRSG. « We discussed the kind of activities that the Commission carries out which gave him a better idea of the sort of work we do, » said the president of the Commission.

The two personalities also discussed the latest developments in the socio-political situation, including the forthcoming presidential election and the need to respect human rights that are linked to it. Mrs Badjo also announced that her institution was going to set up an observatory to monitor the human rights situation during the electoral period.



«The elections will be a major activity for our Commission. We intend to set up a platform which we launched last week to monitor human rights during the electoral period and raise the alarm in case of any violation,» she said.
