People in Kamatela in Odienné called on to live in peace together

Situated behind the Regional General Hospital in Odienné Kamatela is one of the popular neighbourhoods in the Odienné area with some 100 inhabitants. This neighbourhood has recently faced a plague of free circulation of weapons. So in order to sensitise residents on the dangers of this situation, the need to live in a peaceful environment and to respect the law and human rights, the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire decided to organise its sensitisation caravan known as UNOCI Tour in Kamatela on Thursday, 26 September 2013.



The UNOCI delegation included the Human Rights, Public Information sections, UN Police and Military Observers together with representatives of local NGO, Organisation for the Promotion of Human Rights who also took part in the event.



"{In Odienné, the local fabrication of firearms is well developed . Firearms are not a secret for anyone here},"said the spokesperson of

the Canton chief of Odienné and who is also a member of the Regional Security Council. " {My hope is that UNOCI will multiple this kind of encounter so that people cab voluntarily hand over the weapons. especially weapons of war, to the competent authorities}," he added.



The chief of Kamatela, for his part, Kamaté Vakramoko, deplored the attitude of local youths regarding this issue. " {The greatest concern of the local chefferie is over the attitude of some youths who have no respect for their elders or the authorities who came from Abidjan. I ask you to give them plenty of advice so that they can change their attitude because they represent the future}", he said.
