UN System in Cote d’Ivoire discuss future cooperation with national human rights commission

The Deputy Special Representative of UN Secretary-General in Cote d'Ivoire and UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Cote d'Ivoire, Babacar Mbaye Cisse on Thursday 3 April 2014 held discussions with members of the National Commission on Human Rights in Cote d'Ivoire (CNDHCI).



The maiden meeting was aimed at creating acquaintance in order to promote better collaboration between the UN system and the national commission.

Mr. Cisse said human rights constituted a major issue of interest and especially so in Cote d'Ivoire which has experienced crisis these past years. "We have an obligation to play our role as advocates and ensure that human rights are respected not only in this country but in every country where we serve," Mr. Cisse said.



The President of CNDHCI, Paulette Badjo thanked the UN System for coming to the opening meeting of a workshop that received the support of the UN Special Representative in Cote d'Ivoire, Mrs, Aichtou Mindaoudou. "At the end of the workshop," Mrs. Badjo told the UN Humanitarian Coordinator, "we would be able to identify the possible areas that need the support of each agency of the UN System."
