UNOCI builds maternity clinic in Meneke

The village of Meneke, situated at 460 km southwest of Abidjan, on Friday, 14 March 2014, received a new maternity clinic built and equipped by the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) as part of its Quick Impact Projects programme.

Handing over the project, the head of the UN delegation, Doudou Mulaba said the maternity clinic, estimated to cost 18 million francs CFA ($36,000), would cater for the wellbeing of local people especially women and children. "By this

gesture, UNOCI has just demonstrated the importance it places on healthcare for mothers, the guardians of life and your children, the future of the country," Mr. Mulaba said adding that it would also contribute to reinforcement of social cohesion among the women of the community.

The deputy prefect of Tabou, Arsene Koffi Katou said: "To put up a lasting structure aimed at prolonging life was a sacred act which proves that UNOCI goes beyond its mission to restore peace and works for the daily wellbeing of the people and their development." He called on the staff of the clinic to use it with great care.

The maternity clinic is expected to receive some 30 women and children from 17 villages per month. The handing over ceremony was attended by national and international partners.
