UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations discusses with Ivorian political actors

Abidjan, 19 February 2014... A visiting UN delegation led by the Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping, Edmund Mulet on Tuesday 18 February 2014 held separate meetings with representatives of two Ivorian political groupings: the Permanent Framework for Dialogue (CPD) and the Rally of Houphouetists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) to discuss the current situation in the country.

Mr. Mulet wanted to sound their opinion on how to move ahead with the national reconciliation process and political dialogue in Cote d'Ivoire.

"Two political parties handed over some documents to the delegation while others expressed their proposals," Mr. Appiah Kabran of the CPD disclosed. He said the CPD- a grouping of a dozen parties-has a framework for discussions in which it regularly makes proposals based on the profound causes of the civil war. "On this score, the UN can count on the CPD," he added.

With the RHDP, the UN delegation discussed the socio-political situation in Cote d'Ivoire, political dialogue, the national reconciliation process, the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration process, security sector reform, and institutional reforms regarding the October 2015 election.

For his part, Mr. Dagobert Banzio of the RHDP estimated that all the problems have solutions. "Reforms are being implemented every day; one must move gradually, step by step because we are just emerging from a difficult situation,' he told the press.

A day before, the UN delegation met with the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI).
