UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations meets Ivorian Reconciliation Commission

Abidjan, 19 February 2014... "We go away satisfied with the work recently accomplished by the reconciliation commission," the Assistant Secretary-General for UN Peacekeeping Operations, Edmund Mulet declared after meeting the Chairman of the Ivorian national Commission for Dialogue, Truth, and Reconciliation (CDVR) , Charles Konan Banny on Tuesday 18 February 2014 in Abidjan.



"We notice with great satisfaction that it has done an extraordinary amount of work and has presented its recommendations to the government and the Head of State after consulting with all the actors in the country," Mr. Mulet remarked after holding a working session at the CDVR HQ.



"There is still much left to be done", Mr. Mulet said and reiterated the readiness of the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) and the entire UN System to support this important work. "This work is related to security sector reform, disarmament, the political process and the economic development of the country and that is why this meeting was very important to us," he said.



Mr. Mulet has been leading a visiting UN delegation which arrived in Abidjan on Sunday 16 February 2014 to assess the situation of the UN Missions in Cote d'Ivoire and Liberia.



Since its arrival, the delegation, accompanied by the Special Representative of UN Secretary-General for Cote d'Ivoire, Mrs. Aichatou Mindaoudou, has met with several government authorities, representatives of political parties and institutions.
