UNOCI Tour in Tahably Glodé promotes development and social cohesion

A team of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), on 10 September 2013, held discussions with people in Tahably Glodé, situated at 494 km northwest of Abidjan, as part of the Mission's sensitisation activity known as "UNOCI Tour".

The UN delegation, which was accompanied by the director of the Social Centre is Duékoué, included peacekeepers from the 18th contingent of UNOCI's Moroccan Battalion and representatives of the Child Protection, Civil Affairs and Public Information sections. It discussed the mandate of the UN Mission and the activities of the different sections, while appealing to participants to maintain social cohesion and contribute to the development of the locality.

Villagers were encouraged "to stay on the path to peace and reconciliation by forgetting all the suffering they had endured". They were urged to take initiatives which would lead to the development of their village and to denounce any acts of violence against women and children such as physical assaults, especially rape.

The president of the Social Cohesion Committee in Tahably Glodé and representative of the village chief, Alexandre Glazahi, welcomed the initiative to organise the encounter. Social cohesion is a reality in this village, he insisted, adding however that unfortunately people were still deprived of basic services such as potable water and electricity.

It should be noted that the 18th contingent of UNOCI's Moroccan Battalion which participated in the meeting, distributed potable water to the villagers.
