ELECTORAL PROCESS: UNOCI CHIEF MEETS FACILITATOR OF IVORIAN DIALOGUE

Ouagadougou, 22 October 2009.... The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Côte d'Ivoire, Y.J. Choi, appealed in Ouagadougou, on Thursday, for the Ivorian electoral dynamic to be maintained.

At the end of a meeting with the President of Burkina-Faso, Blaise Compaoré, Facilitator of the Ivorian Dialogue, Mr. Choi said that thanks to the progress made so far, peace was at hand. Having said that, he highlighted the challenges which remain, especially the posting of the provisional electoral list, and stressed that it was imperative to quickly find a compromise in this regard.

The Special Representative praised the important contribution of the Facilitator in the progress made in the Ivorian electoral process.

The meeting with the Burkinabè President was part of consultations initiated by the Chief of UNOCI with actors involved in the search for a solution to the Ivorian crisis.

Mr. Choi was accompanied by UNOCI's Force Commander, General Fernand Marcel Amoussou, and the Chief of the Electoral Assistance Division, Ahmedou El Becaye Seck.
