Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d’Ivoire presents diplomas to 26 FRCI officers at the end of training

The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Arnauld Akodjénou, on Friday, 6 December 2013, handed out diplomas to 26 trainer officers of the Forces Républicaines de Côte d'Ivoire (FRCI) at Gallieni camp in Abidjan.

Organised by the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) in support of the Ivorian Government's efforts regarding security sector reform (SSR) , the training of the 26 trainer officers was carried out over one week. The training programme focused on human security, military ethics, protection of civilians, international humanitarian rights, the rule of law, child protection and civilian-military relations.

During the handing out of diploma ceremony, the Deputy Special Representative asked the trainer officers to pass on the knowledge they had acquired to the respective groups. The objective of a training of trainers programme, he said, was to spread knowledge on international standards and ethics as widely as possible. "We advice you to take good care of the multimedia tools which accompany your teaching skills to strengthen existing capacity," he told the new trainers.

For the Deputy Special Representative the security sector reform process in Côte d'Ivoire will significantly help a new efficient and responsible republican army to serve the State and the people.

The final assessment of the training programme will be carried out in June 2014.
