Death of three Senegalese peacekeepers

The United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) regrets to announce the death of three soldiers of the 16th Senegalese Contingent, on Thursday, 23 May 2016, in a road accident, 5 km from Bonguera, a locality situated at 225 km north-east of Yamoussokro.

Master Corporal Sécou Diémé, aged 31, Corporal Mouhamadou Sago Nientao, 30 and Private Assane Cissoko, 41 were taking part in a patrol mission from Bondoukou to Yamoussoukro when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned.

The three peacekeepers were deployed in the Mission in April 2016 in the Senegalese battalion based in Yamoussoukro.

Their deaths bring to 104 the number of peacekeepers who have died since UNOCI was deployed in April 2004.

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and the whole of UNOCI present their heartfelt condolences to the Senegalese Contingent and to the families of the deceased.
