The United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) regrets to announce the sudden death, on 11 August 2016, of Private Hassimi Amadou, a soldier of the Niger Battalion (NIGERBATT), in a medical institution in Abidjan, after a short illness.

The deceased was deployed within the Mission since April 2016. He was unmarried and was 23.

His death brings to 105 the number of peacekeepers who died since the beginning of the Mission in April 2004.

The Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations and UNOCI Staff present their heartfelt condolences to NIGERBATT and to Mr. Amadou’s family.

The date of the funeral will be announced later.
