Cooperation between UNOCI and Ivorian Army is excellent, says Chief of UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations

Abidjan, 31 October 2013...Continuing his meetings with Ivorian authorities, the Chief of the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Mr. Hervé Ladsous, on Thursday, 31 October 2013, discussed the cooperation between the Ivorian Army and the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) with the Chief of Staff, General Soumaïla Bakayoko.



« I am pleased to note that this cooperation is working well and I believe that we are working with confidence and always for a good cause, that is to say, to contribute to improving the security situation in the country, » said Mr. Ladsous at the end of the meeting which was also attended by the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou and the Force Commander of UNOCI, General Iqbal Asi.



Noting the effective improvement in the security situation, the Chief of the UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations, said that UNOCI will continue to work with Côte d'Ivoire with confidence, excellence and friendship, in all areas, especially in the reform of the security sector which is key to the future of Côte d'Ivoire.



General Bakayoko also highlighted the Ivorian Army's excellent rapport with UNOCI, adding that his forces and the UN Mission would continue to work together to coordinate their efforts.



Mr. Ladsous who arrived in Abidjan on 29 October 2013 à Abidjan, concluded his working visit to Côte d'Ivoire on 31 October 2013.
