AGENTS OF THE IVORIAN OFFICE FOR PARKS AND RESERVATIONS STRENGTHEN THEIR CAPACITY IN HUMAN RIGHTS










Contribute to the protection of human rights by strengthening the capacity of

the agents of the Ivorian Office for Parks and Reservations (OIPR) in Bondoukou,

situated 416 km northeast of Abidjan, was the objective of the Human Rights

Division of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), in organizing

a workshop for 31 OIPR agents on Wednesday, 5 June 2013.






For Lieutenant-Colonel Gonto Gbassaka, Director of the OIPR's regional office,

who had sought UNOCI's help in strengthening the capacity of his field staff on

respect for human rights, the expected results of the training should be the

following:








  • Improve the knowledge of OIPR agents on the values, principles and

    international protection mechanisms in human rights;






Develop of the sense of obligation of the OIPR agents with regard to the

protection of human rights.






Provide the OIPR agents with the necessary tools to apply the principles of

human rights in their work.







UNOCI human rights officer Joseph Noubadoum focused on initiatives the OIPR

agents in Bondoukou should take in order to protect human rights. He also

provided them with information on how to take human rights into account when

enforcing the law.






With regard to children's rights, Anita Kouamé from UNOCI's Child Protection

Section sensitized participants on protecting children from physical and sexual

violence.
