Aïchatou Mindaoudou meets leaders of Ivorian opposition parties RPPP, FPI and PIT

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire and head of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, on Wednesday, 31 July 2013, continued her meetings with Ivorian political actors.

The Special Representative was successively received by the leaders of three opposition parties and officials from their political groups: Messrs Laurent Dona-Fologo, president of the Rassemblement pour la Paix, le Progrès et le Partage (RPPP), Miaka Oureto, acting president of the Front Populaire Ivoirien (FPI) and Dr Daniel Aka Ahizi, president of the Parti Ivoirien des Travailleurs (PIT).

Speaking after the meetings, the Special Representative told journalists that the visits were part of her courtesy calls on the different Ivorian political parties, to formally introduce herself to them after taking up her duties as head of UNOCI and Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon, for Côte d'Ivoire.

"I also wanted to inform them that I came to Côte d'Ivoire with a precise mandate which was given to the Secretary-General by the Security Council and which consists of accompanying Côte d'Ivoire on the path to peace, reconciliation and stability, and that I am here for all Ivorians," said the Special Representative. "I also reiterated my willingness to contribute to establishing peace and reconciliation in Côte d'Ivoire", she said, adding that all her interlocutors were resolutely committed to the national reconciliation process and social cohesion, through dialogue between all Ivorians.
