World Cup 2014 unites inhabitants of Pehe and promotes peace





The UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) took part in the launching of a , a facility for the public screening of all the matches of the current World Cup tournament in Brazil in Pehe town, Toulepleu division, about 630 km from Abidjan in the far west of Cote d'Ivoire.





The initiative taken by the NGO PEHE is aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence between the different communities in Pehe which were split by the crisis that rocked the country.







UNOCI's representative at the launching, Vincent Kouakou of the Public Information Office seized the opportunity to call on the population to work toward a peaceful electoral environment in view of the 2015 presidential election. "{Elections are like a democratic game. Endeavor to use this game (World Cup) to consolidate all what has been achieved on the way to peace by being inspired to uphold the values of fair play, unity and solidarity,}" he said.







The Sub Prefect, Barro Arouna who presided over the launching thanked UNOCI for its constant support for activities that promote peace, especially this sporting event that would attract people around football for the next one month. He also welcomed the presence of the UN Radio, ONUCI FM staff who had also come to record some audience-participation programmes.





The president of the NGO PEHE, Justin Ouai said sport was a unifying factor and thanked UNOCI for its support.



Matches of the Brazil World Cup competition will be projected live on giant screens for the population to follow the event in communion with one another.
