UNOCI Principal Deputy Special Representative attends tribute to late Staff Sergeant Maman Bachir

A ceremony to pay tribute to Staff Sergeant Maman Bachir Albarka of the Niger Contingent, who died on Tuesday, 2 June 2015 in Divo, took place on Thursday, 11 June 2015, in the presence of the Principal Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Simon Munzu, at the headquarters of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire in Abidjan.



Speaking at the ceremony, the Commander of the Niger Contingent, Lieutenant-Colonel Bachir Moussa Seydou, praised the professionalism of the later peacekeeper, whom he said was a good worker and led by example thropugh his behaviour, determination and innate sense of responsibility.



«Always motivated by a firm willingness, professionalism and unequal courage, Staff Sergeant Maman Bachir Albarka was one of the best armoured vehicle mechanics in our army, » said Lieutenant-Colonel Bachir.

The Niger Contingent commander said that the late peacekeeper was admired by his peers and highly thought of by his superiors.



Staff Sergeant Maman Bachir was born on 24 October 1971 in Zinder, in Niger. He joined Niger Armed Forces on 1 January 1995 and has served with the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire twice, in 2005 and 2013. He was married with three children.
