UNOCI and ADDR urge ex-combatants in Tengrela to hand in weapons and respect human rights





The Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) Office of the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) and the Ivorian national Authority for DDR (ADDR) have urged ex-combatants in Tengrela, 800 km north of Abidjan, to hand in their weapons in order to benefit from community reinsertion and social cohesion projects.



An official of UNOCI DDR, Adama Tinde told some 20 ex-combatants during a sensitisation campaign dubbed on Thursday 25 September 2014 that « UNOCI will continue to assist ADDR to carry out its activities aimed at improving the climate of security. »



ADDR representative in Boundiali, Issa Ouattara appealed to ex-combatants who had not yet benefitted from projects to exercise patience and tolerance regarding their socio-economic reintegration.



Speaking on behalf of the ex-combatants in Tegrela, Kalilou Diarra expressed the wish of his colleagues to take ownership of the development projects that would enable them overcome poverty. « We would like to take part in the different community rehabilitation works and contribute to the reconstruction and reinforcement of social cohesion in Tengrela division, » he declared.



Other UNOCI components including the Public Information Office, Civil Affairs section, military observers and UN Police took part in the sensitization exercise.
