Trainees at the professional Training Centre in Guiglo sensitised on gender-based violence and human rights

Trainees at the Professional Training Centre (CFP) in Guiglo (520 km west of Abidjan) were on Wednesday 12 March 2014 treated to a screening of the film produced by the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) to educate the public on gender-based violence and human rights.

At the end of the projection, representatives of UNOCI's Civil Affairs and Public Information Offices and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) held an open discussion with the trainees who expressed several concerns that needed to be addressed with regard to the consequences of sexual violence, female genital excision, rights and obligations of children, mechanisms for promoting human rights and UN support for the protection of the disadvantaged.

"The problems treated in the film concern us directly and permit us to know the right attitude to adopt when confronted with cases of violence and human rights abuses," said the spokesman of the trainees, Yai Anselme.

The Director of CFP, Abrogoua Mobio thanked UNOCI for its constant assistance to the educational and training sector and said he was pleased the sensitization had taken place in his centre. "At the Centre we give trainees the rudimentary techniques for their integration in professional life but through your sensitisation, you educate them on moral values indispensable for living together in society," he declared.

The Centre has 167 trainees including 21 girls and provides training in general mechanics and metal construction.
