After the meeting, Mr. Ngokwey said he had come to thank the Prime Minister and his entire cabinet for the support given to the UN System during the past three years. He stressed the importance the UN System places on Côte d'Ivoire and assured the Prime Minister of the Organisation's interest in continuing its work in the country.
"I will always remember the pride of the Ivorian people, the willingness of the people to restore peace and to forge ahead to make Côte d'Ivoire what its national anthem calls the land of hope for mankind. I will remember that after the upheavals we all experienced, the country is in the process of emerging from that critical period and its major challenges are known by all: They are security, social cohesion and economic development," Mr. Ngokwey enumerated.
To conclude, the Deputy Special Representative reiterated how proud he was to have served in Côte d'Ivoire and expressed the wish to see the country move ahead. "A victory for Côte d'Ivoire is not only a victory for West Africa but the whole of Africa," he said.
