UNOCI Tour in Glopaoudy : Villagers plead for a return of refugees and an improvement in political climate

Reconciliation, security, disarmament, humanitarian assistance to victims of the post-electoral crisis, these were some of the issues raised by people in Glopaoudy with a delegation of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) who came to meet them during a sensitisation activity known as UNOCI Tour. The discussions in the village which is situated in the sous-préfecture of Guiglo, some 530 km west of Abidjan took place on Friday, 27 September 2013.

Speaking on behalf of his communities, the village chief of Glopaoudy, Bahié Adrien, pleaded for the return of refugees and continued efforts by the Government to bring about reconciliation. "{Between the different communities cohabitation is peaceful and we know how to find the means to resolve our differences. The return of our leaders who are in exile and pursuit of dialogue between the Government and the opposition with concrete results would go a long way to helping to improve the situation," }he added.

For their part, representatives of the Public Information Office and the United Nations Police reiterated the availability of the UN Mission to serve all the people of Côte d'Ivoire. They also urged the villagers to continue their peaceful cohabitation, to fight against the spreading of rumours and to become involved in reconciliation and the development of their village.

The Moroccan Battailon brought a humanitarian touch to the sensitisation activity by donating school kits to the best pupils in the public primary school in the village and distributing potable water to villagers.
