Special Representative attends signing of National Coalition for Change Charter

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, on Friday, 15 May 2015, attended the signing of the Charter of the National Coalition for Change (NCC) in Abidjan.

Explaining the reasons for her presence at the ceremony, the Special Representative said that the United Nations supports democracy and the signing of the NCC Charter was proof of the vitality of Ivorian democracy.

She welcomed and congratulated the personalities and the parties who created the National Coalition for Change, adding that freedom of expression can only thrive within a legal organized framework and not through violence and disorder.

« This Coalition has been formed within the legal framework which exists in Côte d'Ivoire. This is the reason I will never tire of appealing to Ivorians to be responsible and to put the general interest above all else so that the country does not regress to the situation that prevailed in the past, » said the Special Representative.

The National Coalition For Change (NCC) regroups several opposition parties, members of civil society and presidential candidates for elections scheduled to be held in October 2015.
