Special Representative and UNAIDS Country Director meet to discuss prospects on fight against AIDS

The Special Representative of UN Secretary-General in Cote d'Ivoire, Mrs. Aichatou Mindaoudou met on Wednesday 11 February with the new Country Director of the joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), Tamsir Sali who had come to the HQ of the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) to pay a courtesy visit.



"I also came to discuss the current situation in the country and to seek advice regarding the prospects of the fight against HIV/AIDS in the country," Mr. Sali said after the meeting.



The Director told the press that they examined the priorities of the joint UN programme against HIV/AIDS including the fight to eradicate the pandemic, eliminate mother to child transmission of the disease and promote treatment for children.



"We are already collaborating with UNOCI and the Special Representative has reaffirmed her willingness to involve UNOCI and the UN Country Team in the fight against HIV/AIDS and to ensure that the fight s carried out under the best conditions and in accordance with Security Council resolutions.
