UNOCI Special Representative welcomes return of representatives of the Alliance of Democratic Forces to the Independent Electoral Commission

Abidjan, 13 November 2014... The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire and head of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), Mrs Aïchatou Mindaoudou, welcomes the announcement made on Thursday, 13 November 2014 by the Alliance of Democratic Forces - l'Alliance des Forces Démocratiques (AFD), asking « its two representatives to take up their seats in the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) ».



The Special Representative congratulates the AFD party members and welcomes their republican attitude which will further cement their willingness to participate in the forthcoming electoral process.



Mrs Mindaoudou also congratulates the Ivorian Government for all the efforts it deployed to create the necessary conditions for the conduct of an inclusive electoral process in the interest of the Ivorian people.



The head of UNOCI urges the Ivorian political class, civil society, and all concerned parties to do all they can to create an environment conducive to the holding of peaceful presidential election in 2015.



The Special Representative reiterates UNOCI's commitment and that of the international community to accompany Ivorians on the road to lasting peace.
