Zereguhe population encouraged to work toward peaceful election in 2015 and prevent Ebola virus

The Political Affairs division of the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) carried out a grassroot sensitization campaign in the village of Zereguhe on Tuesday 9 September 2014 aimed at encouraging the population to work toward a peaceful election in 2015 and to continue to serve as a model of peace to the neighbouring villages.

"We have come to reiterate UN support for your efforts toward maintaining a peaceful environment and guarantee a violence-free election in 2015. The only war which merits your attention is the war for development," the head of the UNOCI delegation, Said Babacar Hussein declared.
Zereguhe, located 8 km from Issia town, is the only village in the area which did not resort to violence during the serious crisis which shook the country in

2010. The village Chief, Maurice Lago promised to maintain the reputation.
A local NGO , with the authority of the divisional department of health, seized the opportunity to draw the attention of the population on how to conduct themselves in order to prevent the Ebola fever. "This disease is real. Unfortunately there is no cure for it," the Amoogan representative warned, adding that avoiding the consumption of 'bush meat' reduces the risk of contamination by the virus. He advised them to scrupulously adhere to guidelines given by government and to prevent the presence of a potential victim of the virus on Ivorian territory.
